CUTE LEPERS Video

In early April 2008 Writer/Director Mike McCarthy and Editor/ FX guy Wheat met the (7 membered) CUTE LEPERS in their home town of Seattle, Washington to shoot a video for their song "Terminal Boredom" on their new LP "I Hate Modern Music" (on the Blackheart record label). Actually two videos were shot, the second for another song "So Screwed Up" (which is currently being edited). An additional third video (also for "So Screwed Up") archives a costume change but functions as one single shot in Byron Wilson's Belltown record store called Singles Going Steady. Other locations included the bands fave scooter shop which just happened to be across the street from the Fantagraphics book shop (the comics publisher McCarthy had drawn for in the nineties!).

Naturally, singer Steve E. Nix wraps up his message in "Terminal Boredom" right outside the shop. The local indie radio station KEXP 90.3 was also a great help in providing the "evil radio station" locale. You know, the kind that won't play your requests as you pound on their windows.

Right after, Mike and Wheat left Seattle, the CUTE LEPERS were off to Europe to play with THE DAMNED and the BUZZCOCKS. Very appropriate, since the sound of their record harkens back to hard biting pop melodies with sneering attitude, but makes it seem new all over again. McCarthy had not been to Seattle since 1997 when he premiered the SORE LOSERS Vice Parties and it was great to be back! Thanks for a great time Cute Lepers!

Congratulations to Blackheart honcho Carianne Laguna who just tied the knot this May, 2008!

Watch for the Blackheart Records release of "I Hate Modern Music" which will have the embedded videos in the CD package.
